日豪米サーファーによるプロジェクト
The urushi Alaia Project is based on a foundation of appreciation and respect for both nature and surfing. Surfing enthusiasts from Japan, Australia and America are working together to establish and maintain a beautiful world, a sustainable environment and a responsible society that can be passed on to the next generation.
URUSHI (TAKUYA TSUTSUMI) × ALAIA (TOM WEGENER) × PRODUCE(SHIN AOKI)
The Alaia surfboard, created by master surfboard shaper Tom Wegener from natural wood, has now been coated with urushi, natural Japanese lacquer refined and created by Takuya Tsutsumi.
Both craftsmen use only natural materials, and both work closely with nature. And both craftsmen have a profound appreciation of nature, a deep commitment to its preservation, and a steadfast determination to pass on the natural world to later generations. This project began with the meeting of these two men. We human beings are unmindfully polluting the earth and damaging the environment. The urushi model of the Alaia surfboard will cross the seas across the world, and in riding the waves, will enable people to rethink and reevaluate the grandeur and importance of nature. This is the sentiment, and the passion of these two men.

お互い天然素材を扱い、自然と向き合いながら仕事する二人。
国も言葉も職種も違うけれど、自然に感謝し、自然を守り、自然を後世に繋げたい。
その想いは同じだった。
そんな二人の出会いから始まったこのプロジェクト。
知らぬ間に地球を汚し、自然環境を悪化させている私たち人間。
この漆アライアが、世界中の海を渡り、波に乗ることで、自然の尊さや大切さを改めて考え直すきっかけになれば…。
そんな二人の想いが込められている。
ALAIA
The Alaia are the wooden surfboards that were ridden by the ancient Hawaiians. Shaped from a single piece of wood, they are coated in oil when used.
古代ハワイアンが乗っていた木製のサーフボード。一本の天然木から削り出し、オイルなどを塗って使用する。
■堤 卓也｜堤淺吉漆店 / 一般社団法人パースペクティブ / うるしのいっぽ
北海道大学農学部を卒業後、他業種を経て 2004 年から家業に従事。漆漉し・精製・調合等に携わり、伝統産業や修復分野において、ニーズに合わせた商品を提供する。一方で、人々の暮らしと漆との距離感や、漆の生産量の減少に危機感を感じ、漆のある暮らしを次世代の子ども達につなぐ取り組みとして「うるしのいっぽ」を始める。「サーフボード × 漆」「BMX× 漆」「スケボー × 漆」など、漆との新しい出会いを提供。サスティナブルな自然素材『漆』を通してきれいな地球を次世代に残すべく奮闘中。
■Tom Wegener｜Tom Wegener Surfboards
カルフォルニア出身ジョエル・チューダーとともに、ドナルド・タカヤマのチームライダーとして活躍したレジェンドサーファー。
現在はオーストラリアのヌーサヘッズにて、マスターシェイパーとしてウッドサーフボードを製作中。ウレタン以外の選択肢として、古代ハワイアンが乗っていた木製サーフボード「ALAIA（アライア）」を現代に甦らせました。サーフボードのデザイン、文化や歴史についてもとても造詣が深く、2009年にはシェイパーオブザイヤーを獲得、2019年にはサンシャインコースト大学の博士号も取得しています。サーフィンを通して伝わる、環境についての考え方や生き方は多くの人に影響を与え続けています。
■青木 真｜SHIN & CO. / プロデューサー・ディレクター
京都出身。大学卒業後オーストラリアへ渡豪。
在豪時にサーフィン、WWOOFを通して出会ったデザイナー、映像作家、フォトグラファーたちと創作活動を共にし、日本国内外でも展示会を開催する。
帰国後『SHIN&CO.』を設立し、各国クリエイターと映像、カタログ、web制作、エキシビションなどのプロデュースを行う。
京都・日本の伝統・文化を新たに発信するプロジェクトにも携わり、その素晴らしさを国内外に広めるべく活動中。
